What are EPDM granules?

The name comes from a family of polymers: Ethylene Propylene Dien Monomer. The specific compounds vary depending on ingredients’ proportions and the type of monomer used. Their common trait is elasticity achieved after crosslinking and resistance to weather conditions. But our product is still more advanced.

Every practical synthetic material contains more than the basic polymer, and so do our EPDM granules. Those are: mineral fillers, plasticizer, vulcanising agents, additives and pigments. Their tasks are, among others, to facilitate the crosslinking process, increase volume without losing crucial properties and to achieve a desired hue.

The final material comes in granules – irregularly shaped grains of varying but strictly controlled sizes. You can refer to the sieve analysis for the details. We offer EPDM granules in many colourful versions. Our colourful EPDM product range is called EPDM Colour.

Applications of EPDM Colour rubber granules

EPDM Colour is a component of safe and functional ground surfaces. Main applications include:

Unlike sand or grass, EPDM maintains its properties almost irrespective of weather conditions. It’s also far safer, as rubber surface creates resilient, though passable for wheelchairs and strollers surface. It is also easy to keep clean. EPDM granules provide athletes with a surface friendly for their joints – a vital trait during years of intensive training. On EPDM-based playgrounds, children can run around comfortably and fall down with minimal injury. A wide range of colours allows for creative designs, which increases the attractiveness of the surface.

Advantages of STARGUM EPDM Colour granules

Like the name suggests, this material has a wide range of available colours. Each one has an appropriate number from the RAL colour palette. Designers can use any number of colours to create visually attractive patterns. Moreover, mixtures of colours are also available.

After appropriate installation, the resulting surface combines two apparently contradicting properties: durability and flexibility. That is the primary advantage of EPDM rubber granules. They are designed to withstand sunlight, moisture, frost, wear and tear for many years. At the same time, they work as shock absorbers to minimize injuries when falling. Finally, they provide high friction, crucial during training and games.

The best quality of a complete surface is achieved with multiple layers. Different kinds of synthetic rubber are best suited for the top, middle and bottom layers. Refer to other materials (EPDM StarLight and SBR) for more information.

STARGUM is a renowned EPDM rubber granules’ manufacturer. Rubber industry has been our business since 1983. Our portfolio includes both small playgrounds and grand stadiums.
