Rubber granules for golf fields

Golf, being one of the sports played on grass fields, requires a lot of plant management. Regular mowing and repairing is intense work, typically requiring a qualified personnel. Using artificial turf made with the help of STARGUM rubber granules can reduce maintenance costs.

Esthetic and durable golf course surface solutions

Artificial turf strives to mimic the properties of natural grass, but without its limitations. It obviously does not require pruning and watering. Water usage can get a serious issue at golf courses, actually. To hold respectable competitions, facilities must keep the surfaces in top condition. It is simply easier with artificial turf, for example in a form of green plastic fibres with rubber infill for golf courses.

There are also minigolf facilities, played on artificial surfaces only. Several types are approved for its international competitions, one of which is artificial grass for MOS (Minigolf Open Standard). Both types of this sport can benefit from synthetic rubber granules, although not in every part of the field.

Where are the rubber granules applicable on golf facilities?

A golf course occupies large swathes of land, as much as 70 hectares. Not all of it requires equal maintenance. For example, a fairway is the part where most of the play takes place, but it occupies less than half of the area. Still, it is too big to be covered with artificial turf. That could not be cost effective. However, the starting and endgame areas (named teeing area and putting green, respectively) are much smaller and require more attention. That’s where players’ strikes are more concentrated, so the grass takes heavy blows from the clubs as well as their shoes. Resilient, carpetlike surfaces are welcome. However, artificial turf adopted from soccer resembles natural grass far more.

Granulates made from rubber for golf fields can be used for the teeing boxes – the starting positions. Many of those are not real grass, but mats with plastic fibres. Similar are found on driving ranges (golf training facilities). Golf courses also have many pathways which need to be more durable than grass. Using rubber granules makes them anti-slip and attractive.

Specific sorts of rubber granules for golf fields

At STARGUM we fabricate granules based on several polymers. A popular choice material is EPDM. It serves well for walking and playing, both indoors and outdoors. Available in a range of grain sizes and multitude of colours, it is both elastic and resistant to intense sunlight as well as frost. SBR, on the other hand, is more cost effective. It constitutes the lower layer of many surfaces of sports facilities. It adds to the overall elasticity and durability while being a little protected from the weather.

Rubber granules supplied by STARGUM come from virgin production – not from recycling. This, along with our 40+ years of experience in the rubber industry ensures the top quality of our materials. Contact us and learn all about ordering any amount of granules for your golf course project!
